The Department of Public Works and Highways in the Ilocos Region (DPWH-1) has successfully completed 1,278 out of 1,729 planned infrastructure projects in 2024, utilizing a budget of PHP71.86 billion. These projects span various categories, significantly enhancing the region’s infrastructure. Among the completed works are 202 road projects, 69 bridges, and 211 flood control structures, which have improved accessibility and resilience, thereby enhancing safety for the public, according to DPWH-1 information officer Esperanza Tinaza.
Notable among these are 86 farm-to-market roads, 50 new school buildings, a road leading to seaports, 34 roads connecting to major tourist spots, and nine roads developed under the DPWH-DTI Convergence Program aimed at boosting the regional economy. Additionally, three projects under the DPWH-DND Convergence Program were completed, enhancing defense and security measures in the region.
Tinaza also highlighted the completion of 16 rehabilitation projects that have bolstered disaster resilience by aiding recovery from natural calamities. She emphasized that these achievements reflect the Ilocos Region’s commitment to infrastructure development that supports livelihoods, economic growth, and disaster protection.
Regarding the remaining projects, 434 are currently underway, 16 are pending implementation, and one has been terminated.
