The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has successfully completed three significant infrastructure projects totaling P174.57 million across three different regions, enhancing connectivity and safety for local communities. In San Agustin, Romblon, a P96 million access road spanning 1.69 kilometers was constructed to bolster the Marcos administration’s efforts in improving agricultural trade and farmer livelihoods. This road, stretching from Barangay Binongahan to Barangay Doña Juana, features grouted riprap, metal guardrails, and stone masonry with reinforced pipe culverts, ensuring all-weather access and reducing road hazards during the rainy season. The project, completed under the 2024 DPWH Infrastructure Program, has significantly improved the timely delivery of local products to market centers.
In Sarangani, a P5.78 million steel hanging bridge was built to connect the remote Barangay Kihan to the main road, enhancing safety and accessibility for residents, including indigenous peoples, during typhoon seasons. The bridge, which includes a 56-meter steel structure, drainage, slope protection, and concrete pavement, not only ensures safer passage for school children and farmers but also boosts agricultural productivity by reducing transport costs to larger market hubs. Additionally, it is expected to promote tourism in Malapatan’s inner areas, attracting visitors to its cultural and natural attractions.
Lastly, in Abulug, Cagayan, a P72.3 million flood control rehabilitation project was completed to combat persistent flooding in Barangay Dugo. The project involved constructing a 190-meter reinforced concrete revetment along the Abulug River, fortified with various structural enhancements to mitigate river swelling and erosion. This initiative not only protects residential areas and farmlands but also supports local farmers by safeguarding their agricultural lands, ensuring long-term resilience against extreme weather conditions.
