Decrease in Influenza-Like Illnesses and Dengue Cases Reported by DOH

The Department of Health (DOH) announced a significant reduction in the number of influenza-like illnesses (ILI) and dengue cases across the Philippines from January 1 to January 18. According to DOH Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Albert Domingo, the country saw 5,789 ILI cases during this period, marking a 54% decrease from the 12,620 cases reported in the same timeframe in 2024. Additionally, only one death was reported due to ILI, a stark 96% reduction from the 26 deaths recorded the previous year. The leading causes of ILI identified by the DOH include Influenza A, Influenza B, rhinovirus, enterovirus, respiratory syncytial virus, and adenovirus. On the dengue front, the DOH reported 10,842 cases, an 8% drop from the 11,781 cases in 2024. The number of dengue-related deaths also fell by 50%, with 21 fatalities compared to 42 in the previous year. The DOH cautioned that there might be delays in reporting and consultations for both diseases.
