DAVAO CITY – The Australian Embassy in the Philippines is keen on expanding its investment footprint in Southeast Asia, with a particular focus on Davao City, due to its robust security, stable environment, and thriving business scene. Luke Villiers, a counselor at the embassy, recently visited and praised Davao City’s potential as a prime spot for investment. He noted the city’s dynamic and resilient business environment and expressed interest in understanding more about its economic drivers and sectors ripe for investment. Vice Mayor J. Melchor Quitain Jr. informed the Australian delegation about the city’s progress, driven by continuous economic and infrastructural developments, making it more accessible and forward-moving. He expressed optimism about exceeding last year’s revenue, fueled by an influx of businesses from Manila and overseas, alongside increasing foreign investments. Quitain also mentioned the city’s efforts to improve facilities to accommodate large-scale events like meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE), aiming to enhance the business sector. Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre, who leads the Committee on International Relations, emphasized that Davao City provides various incentives and services to draw both local and international investors, including those from Australia. He extended an invitation to the Australian delegation to participate in the upcoming Kadayawan Festival in August.
