In a significant recognition of effective local governance, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has awarded PHP13.377 million in incentives to the Antique provincial government and nine of its municipalities. The ceremony, held in San Jose de Buenavista, saw Governor Rhodora Cadiao and representatives from the municipalities of Barbaza, Belison, Culasi, Libertad, Pandan, Patnongon, San Jose de Buenavista, San Remigio, and Valderrama receiving their awards on January 28, 2025.
The Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award, which these local government units (LGUs) won, prompted the distribution of these funds. Governor Cadiao’s administration was granted PHP3 million, while each of the nine municipalities received PHP1.153 million. Jessana Carmela Tatoy, the DILG Antique SGLG focal person, highlighted the significance of these awards in promoting good governance practices.
The provincial government plans to utilize its incentive to purchase an ambulance for the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital. Meanwhile, the municipalities have outlined various projects to be funded by their incentives. Barbaza aims to enhance its municipal children’s playground, Belison and Culasi are set to install closed-circuit television systems, Libertad will construct a Level 2 water system, and Pandan will build a waste containment area. Patnongon’s project involves constructing a river flood control system.
Further, San Jose de Buenavista plans to acquire a garbage truck, San Remigio will establish a center for persons with disabilities and senior citizens, and Valderrama intends to develop a tourist information and souvenir center. These initiatives reflect the diverse needs and priorities of the LGUs, showcasing their commitment to improving community services and infrastructure.
