The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that three distinct weather systems are currently influencing the country’s weather patterns. These include the northeast monsoon, known locally as ‘amihan’, the easterlies, and the shear line, as stated in their early morning bulletin on Wednesday.
The shear line is causing cloudy conditions with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms across the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, and Dinagat Islands. Specifically, areas such as Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, and Dinagat Islands are expected to see moderate to heavy rainfall, ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters within the next 24 hours. PAGASA has issued warnings about potential localized flooding in urban, low-lying areas, and regions near rivers, alongside a high risk of landslides in susceptible zones.
The influence of the shear line extends to Palawan and the rest of the Visayas, where partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are anticipated. Meanwhile, the easterlies are bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms to the rest of Mindanao.
In the northern parts of the country, the northeast monsoon continues to bring cold weather, cloudy skies, and rain to Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora. Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated light rains due to the same monsoon.
Additionally, rough to very rough sea conditions are expected along the coasts of Northern Luzon and the eastern section of Central Luzon, driven by strong to gale-force northeast winds. The temperature across the country is expected to fluctuate between 20.4°C and 29.8°C.
