Iloilo City Council Pushes for Swift Action on Water Allocation Request

·

In Iloilo City, the local City Council is actively working on a resolution to urge the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) to quickly approve a water allocation request from Agsirab Water Resource Corporation. The corporation is seeking an allocation of 600 liters per second (LPS), which they hope will not be taken from the National Irrigation Administration’s allocation. Councilor Romel Duron, who leads the committee on public utilities, emphasized the potential benefits of this allocation for both the city and surrounding municipalities, which are currently facing water supply challenges. Duron highlighted that Agsirab has an agreement with Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW) to provide water, noting that surface water is a more cost-effective option than desalination, which MPIW had previously considered. He expressed hope that the NWRB would not only approve the current request but also restore the allocation to the originally requested 1,200 LPS. Duron plans to update the council on the progress of his resolution during their next session.
