·

MANILA – The Department of Agriculture (DA) has announced that field trials for vaccines targeting the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) are on track to be finalized by the close of the first quarter. Assistant Secretary Arnel de Mesa, speaking on behalf of the DA, revealed that the trials are being conducted by teams from Hungary and Germany. He expressed optimism about the timely completion of these trials during a recent interview. The identities of the vaccine companies involved remain confidential as the trials are still in progress. Upon completion, the outcomes of these trials will be submitted to the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) via the Veterinary Quarantine Station. De Mesa further explained that the BAI will seek an endorsement from the Food and Drug Administration following the review of the trial results. Despite the ongoing trials, De Mesa reassured the public that the avian flu situation in the country is well-managed, thanks to rigorous control measures. The BAI has reported no new HPAI cases between January 4 and January 24. The most recent case was recorded on January 3 in Pandi, Bulacan, which affected a group of ducks.
