The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) celebrated a remarkable year in 2024, reporting no fatalities and a significant decrease in aviation incidents. CAAP Director General Manuel Tamayo shared these achievements during a Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon interview on January 28, 2025. The agency noted a 48% reduction in incidents compared to the previous year, attributing this success to stringent oversight and enhanced training protocols.
Tamayo emphasized the rigorous process for issuing air operator certificates, training organizations, and maintenance licenses, ensuring that all personnel, including pilots, are thoroughly trained and medically fit before certification. He acknowledged the higher number of accidents and incidents in 2023 but highlighted the improved monitoring and regulation in 2024.
The statistics reflect a sharp decline in accidents, dropping from 13 in 2023 to just four in 2024. Serious incidents also fell from six to four over the same period. CAAP’s report specified that all incidents in 2024 were confined to general aviation and training sectors, while commercial aviation boasted an impeccable safety record with no accidents or fatalities.
CAAP oversees 82 airports nationwide, with 44 of these being commercially operated.
