In a significant boost to local economies, the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) has disbursed PHP1.67 million in startup funds to seven associations in Camarines Sur under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP). This initiative, aimed at fostering sustainable livelihoods, has been supporting 120 participants since December 2024, according to a recent DSWD news release.
The grants have been allocated across various projects in different towns. In Del Gallego, three associations have been funded for ventures in vegetable farming, broiler production, and rice retailing and wholesaling. Meanwhile, in San Fernando, two associations in areas prone to conflict received funds for a goat production project and a broiler chicken food processing project. Additionally, in Pili town, funding was provided for a rice retailing and wholesaling project and a poultry production project, aligning with the broader Zero Hunger Program.
The SLP is designed as a capacity-building effort to uplift those living in poverty by equipping them with the necessary resources to improve their livelihoods. The distribution of these grants is part of a comprehensive process that not only aids in the success of these new business ventures but also helps participants build and sustain resilient and thriving livelihoods long after the program’s direct support ends.
