In a significant boost to community infrastructure, the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Davao Region (DSWD-11) has presented a new multipurpose building valued at PHP4.4 million to the town of Mawab in Davao de Oro. Regional Director Merlinda Paragamac highlighted that the facility, funded through the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) program, features essential amenities such as a kitchen, dining area, service area, laundry facilities, and three restrooms equipped for individuals with disabilities. Paragamac emphasized the building’s role in enhancing disaster preparedness within the community. The new structure is set to serve the 10,704 residents of Barangay Poblacion, particularly aiding indigent families and indigenous groups who are vulnerable during natural disasters like earthquakes and floods. The KALAHI-CIDSS initiative is part of the Philippine government’s broader strategy to combat poverty by fostering community-driven development and encouraging local participation in planning, budgeting, and project execution.
