CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – On Tuesday, the Philippine Army officially appointed Brig. Gen. Michele Anayron Jr. as the new head of the 4th Infantry Division (4ID), responsible for regions in Northern Mindanao and Caraga. During his inaugural address, Anayron expressed a strong dedication to fostering peace and development, working closely with various stakeholders while maintaining robust security protocols within the division’s jurisdiction.

Anayron outlined his strategy to establish peace and development zones, where high-impact initiatives would be rolled out in partnership with national agencies, local government units, non-government organizations, and the private sector. He stressed the critical role of multi-stakeholder engagement in tackling the underlying issues fueling insurgency, which he aims to prioritize during his tenure.

He took over from Brig. Gen. Consolito Yecla, who had been serving as the interim commander after Maj. Gen. Jose Ma. Cuerpo II retired earlier in the month. Prior to his current role, Anayron led the 403rd Infantry Brigade in Bukidnon, where he played a key role in dismantling New People’s Army (NPA) guerrilla fronts.

Anayron’s military journey started in 1992 as a civil-military operations officer in the Visayas. His career progressed through significant leadership positions in Mindanao, including stints with the Eastern Mindanao Command and the Mechanized Infantry Division. A graduate of the Philippine Military Academy’s ‘Tanglaw-Diwa’ Class of 1992, he has excelled in specialized military training such as the Scout Ranger and Armor Officer Basic courses.

Internationally, Anayron has enhanced his skills through Special Operations Team training in Queensland, Australia, and completed the Grade 2 Staff Officer Course. Beyond his military achievements, he holds advanced degrees, including a Master’s in Business Administration from Xavier University, a Master’s in Public Management from the Development Academy of the Philippines, and a Master’s in National Security Administration from the National Defense College of the Philippines.

Anayron is committed to leading the 4ID in its ongoing mission to build peaceful and resilient communities.
