Philippine Navy Crews Train on Advanced Missile Systems for New Gunboats

·

Philippine Navy personnel are currently engaged in a specialized training program focused on the operation and maintenance of the Non-Line of Sight (NLOS) missile systems installed on their new fast attack interdictor craft-missile (FAIC-M) boats, BRP Tomas Campo (PG-908) and the forthcoming BRP Albert Majini (PG-909). The training, which commenced on January 20 and is set to conclude on February 7, 2025, is being conducted by experts from Rafael Advanced Defense System Limited of Israel.

The program is designed to provide comprehensive education and hands-on experience to six crew members from each vessel, including key officers such as the commanding officer, executive officer, and weapons officer. The curriculum encompasses both theoretical learning and practical application, with a significant portion dedicated to at-sea training. This phase includes system testing, calibration, and the execution of missile firing procedures.

The NLOS missile system, equipped with advanced electro-optical and infrared sensors, supports operations during both day and night, enhancing its combat effectiveness. With a range extending up to 30 km (approximately 18.6 miles), the system allows for precise targeting from a safe distance.

BRP Tomas Campo, the seventh FAIC-M to join the Philippine Navy, was commissioned on November 13, 2024. Earlier in the year, on May 22, the fifth and sixth FAIC-Ms, BRP Herminigildo Yurong (PG-906) and BRP Laurence Narag (PG-907), were also officially inducted into service.
