In a significant move to support the families and caregivers of patients, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Medical Center have jointly opened a new dormitory at the V. Luna Medical Center in Quezon City. The inauguration took place on January 24, 2025, marking a new chapter in providing comfort and support to those who care for the sick.
The newly constructed five-story facility, funded by PAGCOR with PHP53.22 million, offers 35 rooms and 124 beds. It is designed to cater to the needs of patient watchers, featuring kitchens, dining areas, and dedicated caregiver quarters among other amenities. This development aims to alleviate the hardships faced by families during long hospital stays.
Alejandro Tengco, PAGCOR’s chair and CEO, emphasized the project’s significance as more than just a corporate social responsibility effort. He described it as a heartfelt tribute to the nation’s soldiers, acknowledging their sacrifices and dedication. Tengco highlighted the importance of recognizing the challenges faced by military personnel and their families, underscoring the dormitory’s role in supporting those who serve the country.
Prior to this initiative, the AFP Medical Center had only a basic single-story resting area for watchers, which lacked proper ventilation. Brig. Gen. Jonna Dalaguit, the AFP Medical Center Commander, pointed out the severe physical and emotional strain on caregivers due to inadequate facilities. The new dormitory is seen as a vital step in addressing these issues, offering a space that not only supports the physical well-being of watchers but also acknowledges their crucial role in the healing process.
