DILG Orders PNP to Investigate Lottery App’s Unauthorized Use of Department’s Logo and Images

·

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has instructed the Philippine National Police (PNP) to look into the unauthorized use of the department’s logo and photographs by an online lottery application. The app in question, named ‘PCSO Lotto Online Award,’ along with its associated Facebook page ‘Online Lotto,’ has been accused of using images from a DILG event for promotional purposes without permission. DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla stated that the PNP’s Anti-Cybercrime Group has been tasked with investigating the issue. Additionally, the unauthorized use of DILG materials has been reported to Meta for further action. The images misused were from the Seal of Good Local Governance 2024 event, which focused on recognizing excellence in local governance and had no connection to online lotteries. Remulla emphasized the DILG’s strong disapproval of the misuse of its logos, photos, and other materials for unrelated or malicious purposes. He clarified that the DILG had not authorized the use of its materials by the app, the Facebook page, or any other entity. Remulla also called on the public to stay alert and report any similar incidents to the nearest DILG or PNP office.
