Malacañang Clarifies: January 27 Holiday Applies Only to Muslim Communities

MANILA – The Palace has announced that January 27 will be observed as a holiday solely for Muslim communities, marking the celebration of Isra Wal Miraj, which commemorates the Prophet Muhammad’s Night Journey and Ascension. Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin stated on Sunday that this holiday will be recognized only in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and other areas designated by the Muslim Code. For Muslims employed outside these regions, such as in the National Capital Region, Bersamin noted that they will be granted a day off from work. Isra Wal Miraj is a significant event in the Islamic faith, celebrating the Prophet Muhammad’s miraculous journey to the heavens.
