The Philippines has successfully executed its fifth rotation and reprovisioning (RORE) mission to the BRP Sierra Madre at Ayungin Shoal, with no incidents reported, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). The mission, which took place on January 24, 2025, involved the docking of the M/V Lapu-Lapu alongside the BRP Sierra Madre, supported by the Philippine Coast Guard.
Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Ma. Teresita Daza highlighted the significance of this mission, stating that it underscores the effectiveness of diplomacy in managing West Philippine Sea issues. She emphasized that such missions are crucial for maintaining the situation without undermining Philippine national interests.
The DFA expressed gratitude towards the Philippine Navy and Coast Guard for their professionalism during the operation. The mission’s success is seen as a testament to the ongoing provisional arrangement between Manila and Beijing, agreed upon during the 10th Philippines-China Bilateral Consultation Mechanism in Xiamen earlier this month.
This arrangement, established in July 2024, aims to prevent misunderstandings and miscalculations during these missions, while respecting the national positions of both countries. Daza noted that the latest RORE mission reflects the Philippines’ commitment to resolving disputes peacefully through dialogue and diplomacy, in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s guidance.
