Metro Manila Nets P42.3 Million in Fines from 148,000 Ordinance Violators in Early 2025

In the first 24 days of 2025, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) in Manila reported apprehending 148,000 people for breaching local ordinances, amassing fines totaling PHP42.3 million. The crackdown targeted a variety of infractions, with the highest number of cases related to public smoking and drinking, totaling 51,278. Other significant violations included 15,788 instances of people wandering shirtless in public, 15,699 minors breaking curfew, and 15,483 cases of illegal waste disposal. Additional offenses ranged from obstructing roads (1,841 cases), excessive karaoke use past permitted times (1,633), vandalism (253), to traffic violations (44,128). The Southern Police District topped the enforcement chart with 75,148 apprehensions, while the Northern, Quezon City, Eastern, and Manila Police Districts followed with 43,897, 13,419, 10,407, and 5,340 apprehensions respectively. NCRPO chief Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin emphasized that the initiative aims not only at enforcement but also at fostering a culture of responsibility and orderliness in Metro Manila, under the guiding principles of Able, Active and Allied (AAA) policing.
