ILOILO CITY – The inaugural ILOmination Light Festival, a vibrant addition to the Dinagyang Festival, brought together a dazzling array of light festivals from across the Philippines. On January 24, 2025, Iloilo City was transformed into a spectacle of light and culture as contingents from various festivals showcased their unique traditions.
Participants included the Pandang Gitab from Oriental Mindoro, Pavvurulun Afi Festival from Tuguegarao City in Cagayan, Tanglawan Festival from San Jose Del Monte in Bulacan, Hermosa Festival from Zamboanga City, and Bailes de Luces Festival from La Castellana in Negros Occidental. These groups highlighted the festival’s dedication to innovation and inclusivity.
Allan Ryan Tan, president of the Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc., emphasized the festival’s growth and commitment to sustainability. “We strive to expand our horizons each year, introducing more brilliance and innovation, ensuring our festivals not only dazzle but also promote sustainability. Our goal is to make it larger and more inclusive,” Tan stated.
The festival extended invitations to light festivals nationwide, providing them a platform to display their cultural heritage in the City of Love. Mayor Jerry Treñas highlighted Dinagyang’s role as a symbol of unity, strong faith, and rich heritage. “The inclusion of ILOmination enriches our celebration, offering a unique experience that brings joy, inspiration, and a sense of wonder to all participants,” he remarked.
ILOmination also spotlighted Iloilo’s new business districts, which served as stages for the performances. The festival’s grand winner, to be announced on Sunday evening, will receive a prize of PHP500,000.
Dinagyang, held annually on the fourth Sunday of January, is one of the many Philippine festivals celebrating Sto. Niño, the Child Jesus.
