MANILA – The weather bureau announced on Friday that the northeast monsoon and easterlies will bring rain to Luzon and most parts of Mindanao. According to Benison Estareja from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the easterlies are causing cloud clusters east of Mindanao, leading to widespread rain across the island. Residents are advised to carry umbrellas. The forecast includes scattered rains and thunderstorms in regions such as Caraga, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, Catanduanes, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi. Estareja warned of potential floods and landslides during periods of moderate to heavy rainfall, urging residents to take necessary precautions. The northeast monsoon, known locally as ‘amihan,’ is expected to bring rain to Batanes, with isolated light rains predicted for the Ilocos and Cordillera regions, Central Luzon, and the rest of Cagayan Valley. The rest of the country can expect isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies. Additionally, light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal conditions will persist throughout the archipelago. PAGASA reported no low-pressure areas that could develop into tropical cyclones.
