In a significant relief effort, the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) has provided over PHP5.6 million in food assistance to families impacted by severe weather conditions caused by a shear line in the Camarines provinces. According to DSWD-5 Regional Director Norman Laurio, a total of 8,093 families in Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur have benefited from this initiative.
In Camarines Norte, the distribution of food packs took place in the barangays of Capacuan and Batobalani in Paracale town, and Del Pilar, San Antonio, and Mabini in Capalonga town. These areas were particularly hard-hit, with residents facing significant challenges due to flooding and the disruption of their livelihoods from relentless heavy rains.
Meanwhile, in Camarines Sur, 44 barangays in Caramoan received food packs aimed at supporting residents as they recover from the adverse effects of the weather disturbance on their communities.
DSWD-Bicol is working closely with local government units (LGUs) to continue assessing the needs in the affected areas and to ensure that additional relief support reaches those who need it most. Director Laurio emphasized the agency’s ongoing commitment to aiding disaster-stricken communities in the region.
