Negros Oriental Ramps Up Surveillance on Migratory Birds to Prevent Avian Flu

·

In an effort to keep avian influenza at bay, the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) of Negros Oriental is intensifying its surveillance of migratory birds. This comes as a precautionary measure during the season when birds migrate from colder regions to the Philippines. Jaymar Vilos, the PVO’s information officer, confirmed that the province remains free of bird flu, with the most recent blood samples from December showing negative results. The focus of the monitoring efforts is on eight high-risk areas within the province: Canlaon City, Ayungon, Manjuyod, Bais City, Tanjay City, Siaton, Sta. Catalina, and Bayawan City. The initiative underscores the importance of vigilance in preventing the spread of the virus that threatens local poultry populations.
