MMDA’s Zero Waste Expo Highlights Sustainable Solutions in Manila

·

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) organized the Road to Zero Waste expo at its headquarters in Pasig City, aiming to enhance waste management practices across the National Capital Region. The event, held on January 24, 2025, was a key part of the broader zero-waste initiative designed to foster a culture of sustainability in waste handling.

The expo showcased Metro Manila’s unified materials recovery systems and featured a variety of sustainable products, including compost, soil conditioners, coco pots, lily pots, ecobricks, and compressed stabilized earth blocks. These items are the result of effective solid waste management and were displayed to promote their use and production.

This initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s ‘Kalinisan sa Bagong Pilipinas’ campaign, which promotes environmental stewardship through improved solid waste management. During the expo, MMDA Chair Romando Artes expressed optimism about achieving a cleaner Metro Manila through ongoing efforts with local governments and the private sector.

MMDA General Manager Procopio Lipana emphasized the importance of reducing waste and called for collaboration among all stakeholders to develop a cohesive system. He highlighted the need for partnerships, business matching, and strategic planning to identify waste diversion points effectively.

The expo not only served as a platform to display sustainable products but also as a call to action for all involved parties to work towards a cleaner and more sustainable Metro Manila.
