In a significant move to enhance digital connectivity, Himamaylan City in Negros Occidental has entered into a partnership with PhilTower Consortium Inc. and Miescor Infrastructure Development Corp. to construct cell site towers across the city. The agreement, formalized through a memorandum signed by Mayor Raymund Tongson and Kalvin Laurence Antonio Parpan of PhilTower, marks a PHP390 million investment aimed at improving mobile network signals and data connectivity in southern Negros.
The signing ceremony took place at the City Hall on Thursday afternoon, attended by key officials from both the city and the partnering companies. Mayor Tongson emphasized the critical role of robust cellular and internet services in a rapidly developing city like Himamaylan, stating that the project would significantly influence the city’s digital landscape.
Following the agreement, the next steps include identifying suitable locations for the towers and developing the necessary engineering designs and strategic digital infrastructure plans. The project, recommended by the Department of Information and Communications Technology and the Anti-Red Tape Authority, underscores Himamaylan’s commitment to national digital initiatives.
Mayor Tongson highlighted that this initiative not only benefits the residents of Himamaylan but also signals to potential investors that the city is poised for further growth. He expressed optimism about the project’s role in advancing Himamaylan’s ambition to become a smart city, extending its benefits to the broader southern Negros region.
The collaboration between PhilTower and MIDC, which began in 2024, represents a strategic move in the telecommunications sector, aiming to leverage their combined expertise to enhance digital infrastructure across the Philippines.
