In a decisive move to safeguard public health, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) obliterated nearly 160,000 vaping products, totaling over PHP34 million in value, at a private facility in Cavite. The destruction took place on January 17 and 20, as announced by the BOC on January 24, 2025. The condemned items, amounting to 159,830 pieces, were disposed of in adherence to strict regulations aimed at curbing the circulation of harmful goods. Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio emphasized the action as a testament to their dedication to public health and legal compliance. The operation was executed under the authority of seizure and detention warrants, prompted by violations of the Vaporized Nicotine and Non-Nicotine Products Regulation Act, alongside other relevant customs and trade regulations. The BOC, in collaboration with its Auction and Cargo Disposal Division, Enforcement and Security Service, and Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, carried out the destruction. Rubio reaffirmed the BOC’s commitment to protecting Filipinos from illegal and dangerous products, aligning with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directives on prioritizing public health and national security.
