The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in the Philippines has expressed a strong stance against potential espionage activities by foreign nationals within the country. On January 23, DFA spokesperson Ma. Teresita Daza emphasized the department’s commitment to national security in light of an ongoing investigation into alleged espionage by a Chinese national and two Filipino collaborators. Daza stated that the DFA is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to assist other government bodies, including the Department of Justice, the National Bureau of Investigation, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, in their efforts to uphold the law. The suspects, apprehended on January 17 in Makati City, were allegedly involved in surveillance operations targeting both civilian and military sites, using a vehicle equipped with espionage devices.
