Farmers in Camalig, Albay are set to see a surge in their agricultural output following the distribution of new farming equipment. On January 23, 2025, at Nuyda Park in Barangay 2, four farmers’ associations along with one barangay received hand tractors, courtesy of the local government’s agriculture development initiative. The event was spearheaded by Camalig Mayor Carlos Irwin Baldo Jr., who handed over the machinery to representatives from the Cotmon Farmers Association, Taladong Rich Farmers Association, Taplacon Barangay Council, and the Bariw and Baligang Integrated Farmers Association. The hand tractors, funded through the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization’s Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund, are expected to streamline farming processes such as plowing, harrowing, and field leveling. Mayor Baldo emphasized that this move not only supports the farmers’ hard work but also ensures food security for the residents of Camalig. Each beneficiary association comprises between 40 to 90 members, all poised to benefit from this agricultural advancement.
