Health Checks for Kanlaon Eruption Responders

·

In the wake of the Mt. Kanlaon eruption, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Central Visayas is not only aiding affected families but also ensuring the health of its Quick Response Team (QRT) members. Shalaine Marie Lucero, the regional director, emphasized the importance of monitoring the physical and mental well-being of the responders. In Cebu City, QRT members are actively involved in managing evacuation camps in Canlaon City. Nurses within the team are tasked with checking the health of their colleagues, ensuring that everyone’s blood pressure is monitored and any health concerns are promptly addressed. Lucero stressed the necessity of caring for the caregivers, stating that while they support those in crisis, the responders themselves must also be looked after to maintain their effectiveness and health.
