In a significant step towards strengthening ties between Türkiye and the Philippines, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) unveiled a new playground at Tagaytay City Central School on January 20, 2025. This initiative, funded by TİKA, marks another milestone in the growing relationship between the two nations.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Turkish Ambassador Niyazi Evren Akyol, TİKA Country Director Ibrahim Katırcı, and Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham Tolentino. This event underscores Türkiye’s commitment to supporting educational and community development in the Philippines.
TİKA Philippines emphasized that this project is part of their broader efforts to foster international cooperation and enhance community development, aiming to fortify the bonds between Türkiye and the Philippines.
The newly constructed playground, adhering to international standards, is designed to offer a safe and enriching space for students. It serves as a venue for play, fostering friendships, and developing crucial life skills such as teamwork, communication, and resilience.
During the inauguration, Ambassador Akyol highlighted the enduring friendship between Türkiye and the Philippines, which marked 75 years of diplomatic relations in 2024. He described the playground as a ‘humble gift’ symbolizing the deep connection between the two countries and praised the teachers for their role in inspiring future generations.
Mayor Tolentino expressed his gratitude and stressed the role of social media in connecting stakeholders and promoting similar collaborations. He also proposed exploring future sports-related collaborations between the Philippines and Türkiye.
Dr. Edelisa Catacutan, Public Schools District Supervisor, acknowledged the playground’s potential impact on students’ overall development. Meanwhile, TİKA’s Ibrahim Katırcı reiterated the agency’s belief in the importance of both education and play in child development, noting that playgrounds are essential for nurturing creativity, building friendships, and developing life skills.
In addition to the playground, TİKA donated 36 whiteboards to the school, further enhancing the educational facilities available to students.
