·

On January 20, 2025, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) celebrated the opening of a new playground at Tagaytay City Central School, marking a significant step in the strengthening ties between Türkiye and the Philippines. The event was graced by the presence of Turkish Ambassador Niyazi Evren Akyol, TİKA Country Director Ibrahim Katırcı, and Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham Tolentino, highlighting Türkiye’s commitment to educational and community development in the Philippines.

TİKA’s initiative is part of a broader effort to foster international cooperation and build stronger connections between the two nations. The playground, designed to meet international standards, aims to offer a safe and stimulating space for students to play, foster friendships, and develop crucial life skills such as teamwork, communication, and resilience.

During the inauguration, Ambassador Akyol emphasized the deep friendship between Türkiye and the Philippines, especially poignant as they celebrated 75 years of diplomatic relations in 2024. He described the playground as a modest yet meaningful gift from the Turkish people, symbolizing the bond between the two countries. He also commended the teachers for their role in inspiring future generations.

Mayor Tolentino expressed his gratitude and highlighted the role of social media in connecting stakeholders and promoting similar initiatives. He also proposed exploring future collaborations in sports between the Philippines and Türkiye.

Dr. Edelisa Catacutan, Public Schools District Supervisor, acknowledged the playground’s potential impact on students’ overall development. TİKA Country Director Ibrahim Katırcı stressed the agency’s belief in the importance of both education and play in child development, noting that while classrooms provide academic learning, playgrounds are vital for nurturing creativity, building friendships, and developing essential life skills.

In addition to the playground, TİKA donated 36 whiteboards to the school, further supporting its educational mission.
