The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has launched an investigation following the sighting of what is believed to be an underwater drone near Bohol last week. The AFP’s Visayas Command is leading the effort to understand the nature of the ‘unidentified equipment’ that was seen floating in the sea, as announced by AFP public affairs office chief, Col. Xerxes Trinidad, on Wednesday.
Trinidad stated that various AFP units, including the Naval Forces Central, are collaborating to collect information about the incident. Currently, the AFP lacks the necessary equipment to perform a forensic analysis of the device.
The military is calling on the person who initially spotted and shared images of the equipment on social media to contact the nearest military or naval unit. This step is crucial for the proper handling and examination of the item.
Emphasizing the importance of national security, Trinidad urged the public to stay alert and report any unusual activities or findings to the authorities, including the AFP, to help protect the nation.
