MANILA – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has praised a taxi driver for his integrity after he returned a bag containing PHP2.4 million that was left behind by a passenger in Iloilo City. LTFRB Chair Teofilo Guadiz III highlighted the driver, Anthony Barredo Aguirre, aged 52, as an example of honesty and integrity within the transport sector. Guadiz emphasized that Aguirre’s actions demonstrate the existence of honorable Filipinos who value integrity over personal gain. Aguirre, from Barangay Amparo in Pavia, Iloilo City, discovered the bag under the passenger seat of his taxi after receiving a call from his operator about the missing item. He promptly took the bag to the local police station to ensure it was returned to its rightful owner. Guadiz noted that despite the potential personal benefit from such a large sum, Aguirre chose to do the right thing, thereby fostering trust and respect in the transport industry. In recognition of his honesty, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas honored Aguirre with the title of ‘Honorary Citizen of Iloilo’ and a reward of PHP20,000.
