The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced that Senator Imee Marcos, who is seeking re-election, will appear on the ballots after her relative, Francis Leo Antonio Marcos, for the upcoming May 2025 elections. This decision was explained by Comelec Chairperson George Garcia, who stated that the alphabetical order dictates the placement, with ‘F’ preceding ‘I’, thus positioning Francis Marcos before Imee Marcos on the ballot. In a recent development, the Supreme Court issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) against Comelec’s earlier decision to label Francis Marcos as a nuisance candidate. This TRO has led to the reordering of candidate names on the ballots. Garcia confirmed that, following the Supreme Court’s directive, Francis Marcos is now considered a legitimate candidate. Comelec is preparing to resume the printing of approximately 73 million ballots this Saturday, which will be used for the national and local elections, as well as the parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao.
