In a significant boost to local infrastructure, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 3rd Cotabato Engineering District has completed and transferred a multi-purpose facility and a drainage system to the local government of Carmen, North Cotabato. The handover took place on Monday, January 20, 2025, marking a new chapter for the region’s development.
District Engineer Saidale Mitmug highlighted the multi-purpose facility as a dynamic center designed to enhance local trade and commerce. He emphasized that the facility provides a safe and organized environment for vendors and residents, which is expected to improve the accessibility of goods and services, thereby boosting the local economy.
The construction of the facility was funded by the General Appropriations Act (GAA) with a budget of PHP50 million. Mitmug expressed gratitude towards the local officials and stakeholders whose collaboration was crucial in realizing the project. He stressed that such investments in infrastructure lay the groundwork for sustained economic growth.
On the same day, the DPWH also completed and handed over the Matalam-M’lang-Bagontapay drainage canal system. This PHP21.4-million project, stretching 815 meters, is a vital step forward in managing flood risks in the area. Mitmug noted that the new drainage system offers significant relief to the community, mitigating the impact of heavy rainfall and protecting residents from water-related hazards.
These developments are poised to enhance the quality of life for the people of Carmen and surrounding areas, providing both economic and environmental benefits.
