·

In a move to strengthen the enforcement of environmental regulations, the Davao Oriental provincial government has enlisted the help of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). This initiative aims to tackle illegal mining and other environmental infractions more effectively. Governor Niño Uy expressed his gratitude towards the police and military personnel, emphasizing their crucial role in maintaining both peace and environmental integrity within the province. He urged them to perform their duties not just out of obligation, but with passion and dedication towards protecting the environment. A comprehensive training session was held from January 15 to 17, designed to equip AFP and PNP officers with the necessary knowledge of environmental laws and preservation techniques. This training was a joint effort by the provincial government, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Davao Region, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, along with the AFP and PNP. Leopoldo Imbang Jr., an official from the Environment and Natural Resources Office, highlighted that this approach is intended to ensure that laws against illegal mining and extraction are enforced by those with the authority and capability to do so effectively.
