In a significant crackdown on crime, the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) reported the arrest of almost 11,000 suspects and the seizure of evidence valued at PHP3.3 billion throughout 2024. This announcement was made by CIDG chief Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III during the group’s 72nd founding anniversary celebration at Camp Crame.

Torre detailed that the CIDG executed 13,349 law enforcement operations last year, leading to the apprehension of 10,797 wanted individuals, the confiscation of 1,439 loose firearms, and the seizure of evidence amounting to PHP3,361,432,558.24. Additionally, the CIDG successfully resolved 2,729 cases in 2024, achieving a crime clearance efficiency of 99.50 percent and a crime solution efficiency of 85.92 percent.

To maintain their effectiveness, Torre emphasized that the CIDG would continue to develop and implement strategies to enhance its law enforcement capabilities. He also committed to strengthening cooperation with other law enforcement agencies, local government units, and international organizations to combat transnational crimes and improve intelligence sharing.

In a separate matter, Torre addressed a false rumor circulating online about his hospitalization. He firmly denied the rumor and labeled photos purporting to show him in a hospital as fake. Torre announced his intention to file cyberlibel charges against those spreading the misinformation, specifically mentioning former broadcaster Jay Sonza as one of the alleged propagators. He expressed frustration over the impact of the rumor on his family and colleagues, who were inundated with messages of concern.

Furthermore, Torre disclosed that he had previously filed an inciting to sedition complaint against former Philippine Army captain Clemente Enrique with the Department of Justice, citing Enrique’s alleged calls to overthrow the government as evidenced by videos posted online.
