In a significant development in the case involving the mishandling of a PHP6.7-billion drug seizure, the Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) announced that 15 of the 29 implicated police officers are now in custody. This update was shared by CIDG chief Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III during a press interaction at the 72nd founding anniversary celebration of CIDG held at Camp Crame in Quezon City on Monday, January 20, 2025. Torre mentioned that the detained officers include both active and retired personnel. Additionally, he noted that several other officers have indicated their willingness to surrender, suggesting a potential increase in the number of those in custody. The case, which stems from an October 2022 drug operation, has led to arrest warrants being issued by Manila Regional Trial Court Branches 175 and 44 against the officers for allegedly planting evidence and mishandling the prosecution of suspects. In response, the PNP has established Task Force 29 to pursue these officers.
