Northeast Monsoon to Usher in Cloudy Conditions and Rain Across Luzon This Sunday

·

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has forecasted that the northeast monsoon, known locally as ‘amihan,’ will bring cloudy skies and rain to various parts of Luzon on Sunday. According to PAGASA’s 24-hour forecast, regions such as Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Quezon are expected to see cloudy conditions with moderate to heavy rainfall. The agency has cautioned that these weather conditions could lead to flash floods and landslides, especially in areas prone to such hazards like low-lying and mountainous regions. In Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy with light, isolated rain showers, though no major impacts are anticipated. The rest of the Philippines, including the Visayas and Mindanao, will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies, which could also cause localized flash floods or landslides during severe weather events. Northern Luzon and the eastern sections of Central and Southern Luzon will see moderate to strong winds blowing from the east to northeast, leading to moderate to rough sea conditions with wave heights of 2.1 to 3.4 meters, which could be hazardous for small boats. In contrast, the rest of the country will enjoy lighter to moderate winds and calmer coastal waters, making it safer for maritime activities.
