In a coordinated effort, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) conducted a raid in Parañaque City, resulting in the arrest of 32 foreign nationals engaged in illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) activities. The operation took place on Friday night in Aseana City, a bustling business district. According to BI intelligence division chief Fortunato Manahan Jr., the detainees were involved in online gaming and scamming operations. The group comprised 20 Chinese, 11 Malaysians, and one Cambodian. BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado issued a stern warning to foreign nationals continuing illegal activities, emphasizing that the crackdown will persist until all such offenders are apprehended and deported. This action follows President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s ban on POGO operations announced in July 2024. The arrested individuals are currently held by the NBI pending their deportation.
