DTI Antique Calls on Local Governments to Boost One Town, One Product Initiative

·

In a push to enhance local economies, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Antique is calling on local government units (LGUs) to rally behind the One Town, One Product (OTOP) initiative. Mary Jade Gonzales, the officer-in-charge at DTI Antique, emphasized the importance of LGUs setting aside funds and creating a Project Management Office (PMO) dedicated to OTOP during an interview on January 17, 2025.

Gonzales plans to visit all 18 LGUs in the province to garner their support. She highlighted that the OTOP’s implementing rules and regulations require the establishment of PMOs to promote and advocate for local products. DTI Antique is committed to supporting these efforts by assisting with marketing at trade fairs and providing training on packaging and labeling.

The town of Bugasong has already identified handloom weaving, known locally as ‘patadyong,’ as its OTOP. Mario Manzano, president of the Bagtason Loom Weavers Association, praised the LGU’s support, noting it is crucial for sustaining their industry. Other towns in Antique have also selected their OTOPs: Anini-y focuses on buri mats and boxes, Barbaza on veggie chips, veggie canton, and batwan powder, and Belison on garments and wearable products.
