On January 16, 2025, the National Irrigation Administration in Bicol (NIA-5) announced that it will make 500 bags of Bagong Bayaning Magsasaka (BBM) Rice available for purchase at its Sorsogon City office starting the following day. This initiative targets vulnerable populations, including senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, solo parents, and recipients of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps). The rice will be sold at a subsidized rate of PHP290 for a 10-kilogram bag, which equates to PHP29 per kilogram. NIA-5 emphasized that buyers must present an identification card to confirm their eligibility. Purchases are limited to one bag per household and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis until stocks are depleted.
