Police Vigilance in Negros Oriental Amidst Election Season

·

In Negros Oriental, the local police are on high alert, closely monitoring the movements of former members of a disbanded private armed group (PAG). Lt. Stephen Polinar, the spokesperson for the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, disclosed that six individuals from the group, which was dismantled years ago, are suspected to have relocated elsewhere on the island. These individuals are sought in connection with various shooting incidents, some of which were linked to previous elections. Additionally, they are under scrutiny for possible involvement in the assassination of former Governor Roel Degamo in early March 2023, though specifics remain undisclosed by Polinar. In collaboration with the National Bureau of Investigation, the police are keeping a close watch to ensure these suspects do not return unnoticed. As the election period approaches, no reports of armed men or mercenaries entering the province have been received. Security measures are in place at all entry and exit points, including airports, seaports, and land borders, to prevent any lawless activities during the upcoming mid-term elections.
