Philippine Worker’s Remains Arrive Home After Kuwait Mix-Up

·

The body of Filipino worker Jenny Alvarado, who was involved in a distressing mix-up of remains, has been repatriated to the Philippines from Kuwait. The incident, which saw a different body mistakenly sent to her family, is under investigation. Alvarado’s remains landed in Parañaque City at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Thursday, arriving on Kuwait Airways flight KU 417. DMW Undersecretary Felicitas Bay, along with DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, representatives from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, and Alvarado’s family, were present to receive the remains. An autopsy has been scheduled at the family’s request, who have asked for privacy during this challenging period. The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is actively supporting Alvarado’s family, including her three minor children, and is committed to providing comprehensive assistance. The Philippine government is collaborating with Kuwaiti officials to investigate the circumstances surrounding Alvarado’s death, which occurred alongside two other foreign coworkers due to coal suffocation from a heating system malfunction. Legal action is being considered against those responsible for the mix-up, with the DMW’s legal team actively involved. The family has accepted the DMW’s account of the incident and the department vows to pursue justice for Alvarado. The incorrect body initially sent to the family has been returned to Kuwait.
