Manila’s city government celebrated the opening of the San Sebastian Residences, a new 20-story housing development near the University Belt, on Thursday. Mayor Honey Lacuna emphasized that the project is not exclusively for city hall employees but is available to all qualified residents of Manila. ‘This housing is for everyone who dreams of owning a home. We invite you to reach out to the Manila Urban Settlements Office to learn more,’ Lacuna stated at the launch event.
The mayor also announced a significant policy shift from perpetual renting to a ‘rent-to-own’ model, offering residents the opportunity to eventually own their units after fully paying off the cost. This change aims to provide a pathway to homeownership for many.
The inauguration saw the presence of key city figures including Vice Mayor Yul Servo, MUSO chief Danny de Guzman, and councilors from the third district such as Fa Fugoso, Maile Atienza, and Jong Isip. They joined Mayor Lacuna in handing over the first 20 units to city hall employees.
City Engineer Moises Alcantara detailed the amenities of the San Sebastian Residences, which include 243 residential units, 57 parking spaces, four elevators, a swimming pool, an activity and outdoor area, a function room, a fitness room, an admin office, a roof deck, and a sewage treatment plant.
