In a recent operation in Barobo, Surigao del Sur, authorities apprehended a 31-year-old man known as ‘Aga’ from Purok 6, Barangay Poblacion, for breaching the election gun ban and possessing illegal drugs. The arrest occurred on Wednesday night following a report of gunfire around 10:50 p.m. in the same area. Responding officers from the local police station seized a Colt .45-caliber pistol, two magazines, three spent cartridges, a black pouch, a digital weighing scale, a ‘tooter,’ and a heat-sealed sachet believed to contain shabu from the suspect. Colonel Harry Domingo, the director of the Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office, emphasized that this operation is part of a broader effort to ensure peace and order during the election period. The suspect now faces charges under Republic Act 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, linked to the Commission on Elections Resolution No. 10728 on the gun ban, as well as charges under Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
