Northern Samar Governor Edwin Ongchuan welcomed Papal Nuncio to the Philippines, Archbishop Charles John Brown, during his visit to the province on January 15, 2025. The governor emphasized that the visit underscores the deep and lasting relationship between the Vatican and Northern Samar, rooted in a history of shared faith, mutual respect, and a dedication to serving humanity.

Ongchuan expressed hope that the visit would motivate the community to enhance their commitment to service and collaborate for a better future for the province and the country. The visit coincided with the installation of Bishop Nolly Buco as the third resident bishop of the Diocese of Catarman, a position he was appointed to by Pope Francis in October 2024, following his role as Auxiliary Bishop since December 2023.

During his stay, Archbishop Brown stressed the significance of cooperation between the church and the government. He noted that although the church and the state have distinct roles, their collaboration can lead to beneficial outcomes for the community. This sentiment was echoed in a gathering with local government officials and leaders of the Roman Catholic Church.

The provincial government honored Archbishop Brown’s visit with Sangguniang Panglalawigan Resolution No. 591, recognizing his presence at key events in Northern Samar as a symbol of the robust partnership between civil and ecclesiastical entities, fostering unity, collaboration, and teamwork.
