Malacañang Responds to Rumors of VP Sara Duterte’s Presidential Ambitions

On Wednesday, Malacañang commented on the swirling rumors about Vice President Sara Duterte potentially running for president in 2028. Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin described the speculation as ‘too premature’ but emphasized that it is within her rights to pursue such a candidacy. During an interview, Bersamin stated, ‘I think it’s too premature, but it is her privilege (to run).’ Although Vice President Duterte has not made an official announcement regarding her political plans for 2028, she has indicated that she is ‘seriously considering’ a run for the presidency. This statement came after her recent ‘private trip’ to Japan, where she met with communities of overseas Filipino workers.
