LTFRB Halts Operations of Modern Jeepney Firm After Deadly Bulacan Accident

·

In the wake of a tragic accident in Calumpit, Bulacan, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has imposed a 30-day preventive suspension on the modern public utility jeepney operator, Carmexss TSC. The decision came after a Carmexss TSC jeepney was involved in a fatal collision with a tricycle on January 14, 2025, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to several others.

LTFRB Chair Teofilo Guadiz III announced the suspension, which aligns with an ongoing investigation by LTFRB Region 3. Guadiz has set a 15-day deadline for the investigation results, emphasizing that the suspension is to ensure the investigation’s integrity. The jeepney involved in the accident attempted an overtake on MacArthur Highway, leading to a head-on collision with a tricycle carrying four passengers around 2 p.m.

The crash caused both vehicles to veer off the bridge, claiming the lives of the tricycle driver and one passenger. The other two tricycle passengers and 18 passengers from the modern jeep, many of whom were students from Bulacan State University, sustained injuries.

Guadiz urged all public utility vehicle operators to enforce strict adherence to road safety protocols among their drivers, warning that reckless behavior could lead to severe consequences, including franchise revocation.
