In the wake of a tragic accident in Calumpit, Bulacan, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has taken decisive action by issuing a 30-day preventive suspension to the modern public utility jeepney operator, Carmexss TSC. The suspension comes after a Carmexss TSC modern jeepney was involved in a fatal collision with a tricycle on MacArthur Highway, resulting in the death of two individuals and injuries to several others.
LTFRB Chair Teofilo Guadiz III announced the suspension, emphasizing that it is part of an ongoing investigation by LTFRB Region 3. Guadiz has set a 15-day deadline for the investigation results, stating that the suspension is necessary to avoid influencing the investigation’s outcome.
The accident occurred when the modern jeepney attempted an overtake on a bridge, leading to a head-on collision with a tricycle carrying four passengers. The force of the impact caused both vehicles to veer off the bridge. The tricycle driver and one passenger were killed, while the other two tricycle passengers and 18 passengers from the modern jeepney, many of whom were students from Bulacan State University, sustained injuries.
Guadiz urged all public utility vehicle operators to ensure their drivers adhere strictly to road safety regulations, warning that reckless driving and negligence could lead to severe consequences, including the potential revocation of franchises.
