Iloilo City Honors MORE Power’s Role in Boosting Local Economy

·

In a recent session, the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Iloilo City unanimously passed a resolution celebrating the significant contributions of More Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) to the city’s economic progress. Councilor Romel Duron, who authored the resolution, emphasized the positive impact of MORE Power’s modernization efforts on the local power distribution system over the last five years.

A study conducted by the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) revealed that MORE Power’s services have annually contributed approximately PHP4.9 billion to Iloilo City’s economy. Furthermore, the utility company has been instrumental in job creation, adding around 2,200 jobs each year and boosting household incomes by an estimated PHP1.75 billion from 2020 to 2022.

The resolution also highlighted findings from the Institute of Contemporary Economics, which pointed out that the reliable and affordable electricity provided by MORE Power has been a magnet for businesses and has spurred economic innovation within the city.

Beyond economic contributions, MORE Power has engaged in community initiatives, including environmental cleanups, mangrove planting, and cultural preservation efforts such as underground cabling and lighting of historical sites. These efforts were led by MORE Power President Roel Castro, who was honored as an Adopted Son of Iloilo City by Mayor Jerry Treñas in December 2024.
